Strawberry Mochi, age 8 Nicknamed “Sberry” by her friends, Strawberry is a sweet but sensitive girl often swept away by her vivid imagination and even bigger feelings. She tries to listen to herself instead of others’ opinions in order to find the confidence to undertake anything!
Jiajia Huhu, age 6 Jiajia’s full name means “each and every family.” She is affectionate and protective of her friends and family. She is precocious too, having smartly skipped two grades to be in the same class as Sberry. Jiajia is Sberry’s BFF or best friend forever.
Mama Mochi The big earner of the family, Mama is a quiet intellectual who is always in a meeting. She insists on routines and doesn’t always appear to be looking at you because her mind is on something else. But she does care when you go to her. Sberry has Mama’s amethyst eyes.
Yeye Mochi Now a retired scientist, Yeye first immigrated to America on a full-scholarship from a top university. He is the real cook of the family and always has something delicious prepared for when something goes wrong or if someone is upset.
Nainai Mochi With a voice of honey, Nainai is a vibrant social butterfly even at her age. Her hair is always perfect with well-coordinated outfits. She is lively but expects perfection in her children and grandchildren.
Gege Mochi, age 16 Gege has cool hair and is popular at school. He is really into his looks and works out in the gym constantly. He masks how smart he is and can talk himself out of any situation.
Jiejie Mochi, age 13 Jiejie is always in her room listening to music. She complains she’s tired and doesn’t sleep well at night. She avoids school events and just wants to be left alone most of the time.
Meimei Mochi, age 5 Always joyful, Meimei prances about like a fairy. She insists on wearing her favorite ballet tutu to bed every night. Meimei is sweet as peaches but incredibly wise although she is only 5 years old. She is the voice of truth and intuitively understands adult situations. Mama calls her an “old soul.”
Didi Mochi, age 6 Often irritable or angry, Didi is constantly running around but never finishes anything. He is high energy, fidgety, restless, speaking out of turn, always losing things, and running late. He is wonderfully creative and is particularly close with Sberry not only because of the closeness in their ages but also for their shared love of art. Doing art with Sberry is when Didi focuses best.
Hong Laoshi Hong Laoshi is a firm but kind woman who believes in the best of everyone. She will keep you accountable and won’t let you shirk away from a mistake. She’s always extending an helping hand and eager ear, except she is very private about her own self.
Maike Feng, age 9.5 He is loud, brash, and bigger and taller than everyone else in class. It is his third time enrolled in Hong Laoshi’s class and he does not like to collaborate. Maike wants everyone to know the world has wronged him and his favorite phrase is “it’s just not fair.”
Hao Qiang, age 7 Although timid-looking at first glance, Hao is secretly competitive and wants to win first at everything. She wants to make friends but can’t seem to keep them. Occasionally she would surprise you by doing something nice.
Shawn & Dee Swanson, age 8 The Swanson brothers are twins of mixed heritage. They recently transferred from an international American school. Their dad is a diplomat and their mom is a former teacher. Both boys are kind and well-liked by others. But Hong Laoshi appears slightly annoyed whenever she sees Ms. Swanson.
